Final WP Credits Wrap-Up Report (English Version)

Introduction

My name is Pablo Romero, and this is my final report for the WP Credits program. During this program, I contributed to the WordPress Polyglots team by working on the translation and review of strings for WooCommerce in Spanish (Costa Rica) (es_CR).

This report summarizes my contribution process, the challenges I faced, the skills I developed, and the impact of my work as part of the WordPress open source community.

Teams and projects I contributed to

I contributed to the WordPress Polyglots team, a community focused on translating and localizing WordPress projects to make them accessible to users around the world.

My main project was the translation and review of strings for WooCommerce in Spanish (Costa Rica) (es_CR) through the Translate WordPress platform. My goal was to provide clear, consistent, and accurate translations while following the standards established by the Polyglots community.

During the process, I reviewed technical elements such as HTML tags, links, placeholders, and dynamic variables to ensure that the translated content maintained its correct functionality.

Learning resources

Throughout this project, I used resources provided by the WordPress community, including the Translate WordPress platform, Polyglots documentation, and translation guidelines.

These resources helped me understand the contribution workflow, translation standards, and the importance of maintaining consistency and quality when contributing to an international open source project.

Challenges and solutions

One of the main challenges I faced was initially selecting an incorrect project version, which required changing the project before continuing the translation process. After identifying this issue, I adapted my work to the correct project, WooCommerce in Spanish (Costa Rica).

Another challenge was maintaining language consistency, especially regarding the use of regional expressions such as “vos” and “tú”. I reviewed and adjusted translations to ensure a more appropriate and consistent style for Costa Rican Spanish.

Finally, the approval process represented another challenge because translations required review by WordPress Polyglots editors. Through patience and continuous review, the submitted translations were successfully approved.

My contributions

My main contribution was the translation and review of 205 strings for WooCommerce in Spanish (Costa Rica) (es_CR).

All submitted translations were reviewed and approved by WordPress Polyglots editors.

Key learnings from the WP Credits program

The WP Credits program allowed me to understand that open source contribution is based on collaboration, communication, and commitment from the community.

I learned that software localization is not only about translating words but also about adapting content so that users from different regions can have a better experience.

This experience also helped me understand the importance of attention to detail, technical accuracy, and following established contribution processes.

I was able to see how small contributions can have an impact on improving the experience of thousands of users. After completing this program, I would like to continue participating in the Polyglots team and contribute to future WordPress and WooCommerce translation projects.
